As we near the end of March 2022, I have some news – I just concluded my first year of my Masters! I don’t tend to talk much about my personal life a great deal on The Low Waste Weekly – preferring to keep it in the direction of informative Low Waste content. But, as I have began to study the subject itself, it felt it deserved its own post. So, let me tell you about my MSc in Environment & Sustainability!
I’m studying the subjects at a university in London, part-time, over two years. Around my full-time job, which yes, does sound crazy. And yes it is slightly, but luckily the university is geared towards people with careers, so conduct all their lectures in the evenings.
Topics covered in the MSc include Environmental Science for Environmental Management, Sustainable Business Practices, Environment & Policy..
The past few months have been very hard going, with my time-management skills being pushed to the brink. But, I have now completed the 3 initial modules – so halfway there! Over the two years, topics covered in the MSc include Environmental Science for Environmental Management, Sustainable Business Practices, Environment & Policy, an optional modules and a Dissertation at the end.
So far, opting for part-time was a great choice as it has eased the pressure of a heavy workload. The themes themselves very suited to my interests. As it is a Master’s, you are very much given control of what direction you want to steer your work; I chose to focus more on the Plastic Pollution/Waste angle which has been so motivating.
As I now have a long summer ahead to prepare for my dissertation, it will allow me to properly find the niche I want to focus on. Plastic Pollution/Waste has always sparked my interest, so I suspect this will be the continuing angle I focus on!
Ultimately, the reason I chose to do this Master’s was my developing passion for the subject. The Low Waste Weekly has been my little passion project over the past year, so studying an MSc in the topic only strengthens the information I put out here too. On the plus side, I will finally have more time to dedicate to this website this summer too. So, expect lots of informative articles over the summer, with my new-found academic knowledge, enjoy!
