When online shopping, often it can feel easy to slip down a rabbit hole of mentally creating a shopping list as long as your arm. Often things we may not really need, and with that, probably not that sustainable for the planet either. If this has ever happened to you, The Beagle Button are here to save the day! The Beagle Button are a sustainable shopping browser extension, where they scour the internet for planet-friendly alternatives for the items you’re currently looking at.

I discovered The Beagle Button last year and have found it such an easy and effective tool to use. A small box appears on the side of your screen with a suggestion. For example, if you were shopping for a plastic toothbrush, they’d pop up with a suggestion for a more planet-friendly bamboo toothbrush.

The UK alone wastes an average of 200 million tonnes per year [GOV.UK], often items are seen to be of little value. Most are made of damaging, often toxic materials. For instance plastic, once sent to a landfill, can stay there for thousands of years. Consumerism is at an all-time high. Our planet is crying out for eco-alternatives to everyday products; having a sustainable shopping browser extension is a great place to start.
